As far as the idea for the object for the project it was a no brainer. My mother has always been very spiritual and the concept of kindness always is one of my favorites so the Buhhda statue was one of my first ideas. As far as the lily pedestal, the Buddhist religion is very much so about being one not only with yourself but with the world around you as well and I really find the lily a gorgeous natural phenomenon and it seemed to fit well in with my piece. The smooth bent edges of the pedals on the lily were a little hard to grasp and utilize to the full potential that I wanted to but with this being my first project I really just wanted to see what I could do. I used mostly foam and regular plaster of this project but the thought of adding a little color to the plain white plaster seems very tempting. Cutting the foam was a process all of its own. The knowledge of release cuts was something that I did not have before this class and I, personally, think it should be the first thing people learn in sculpting simply for its life saving capabilities.
