Most of my designs I tried to think of things that I like to wear like rings and necklaces. I then went in and tried to add a unique design to really bring out the accessories when the person wears it. They are all made of pretty basic shapes and forms because I was attracted to the simple form and look of the shapes. TinkerCad was definitely a huge resource throughout this entire piece. When it decided to work.

I pictured this piece being placed in the open, uninhabited field off of Annie Glidden. That road is one of the main ways visitors come in to visit NIU off of the interstate and there is little to no school spirt to be seen anywhere. This statue would be roughly 16-18ft tall and have a bench seat surrounding the base so that passer-bye’s can stop and sit a while. The letters are leaning on each other to represent the support in NIU not only from the university but from the community of DeKalb as well. The ridges in the side of the letters are meant to look as though if shoved together they would all fit, almost like a puzzle. This is representative of the unity that is a part of this Universities experience. In a sense “NIU just fits.” I would want this to be a fairly large sized piece made of a well-polished silver. |
